Best fabrics for hats

Wool

Cotton

Cotton is one of the natural fibers used in making hats. However, a lot of hats are not 100% cotton. Pure cotton is a bit expensive compared to synthetic fibers. For this reason, they are popular in putting embroideries and logos on caps.

The soft and breathable material makes cotton a darling to hat lovers. Besides, cotton is hypoallergenic. With cotton hats, you will never experience skin irritation.

Cotton is also excellent when it comes to controlling moisture and insulation. Their ability to absorb moisture makes it suitable for making the headbands of caps. Unfortunately, cotton is not as durable as synthetic fibers, such as polyester. This is why it is often blended with manufactured fibers to boost its durability.

Linen

Nylon

Want something thin and lightweight? Consider nylon.

A man-made textile, it is similar to polyester in that it comes from plastics. Highly breathable, it will feel cool on a hot summer's day.

Straw material

Straw is a material made by weaving or braiding dried fibers taken from plants. There are a number of plant fibers that are used this way like bamboo, wheatgrass, papyrus reeds, and sisal.

Abaca straw and hemp straw are the most common of these used in hat making. Paper straws made of cellulose are also increasingly being used in hat making.

The fibers are plaited or woven into different shaped crowns and brims. Even today straw hats are made by hand weaving and the quality of these hats are dependant on the tightness and quality of the weaving, and the experience of the weaver. Hats made out of these straws are strong, durable, and water-resistant. But this is only for natural straw. You have to be careful that you have a natural straw – paper straw hats may not be as water-resistant or durable.

Best Fabric For Baseball Caps

This is probably a toss-up as both cotton and polyester present a strong case for being the best fabrics for baseball caps. Polyester has already stated its case in the previous section so this one will focus on the benefits of using cotton.

First, cotton is soft and comfortable. Your head should not hurt even if the game goes into extra innings. Second, cotton is very durable. That is a quality you always want in a baseball cap.

Third, it is a versatile fabric that allows you to do a lot of things to your cap without ruining the integrity of the fabric. The fabric allows you to dye it a different color if you want. Finally, cotton is also very absorbent, a quality that probably helps this fabric edge out polyester as being the best for baseball caps.
